Virtue post

One of my greatest virtues is determination. Whether it be in a sport, in school, or in other competitions I am always determined to do well, and I never give up. In swimming i am so determined to get better, that when i go up to Boston for Thanksgiving I bring swim practices with me and do them at the YMCA near my grandparents house. In school even if my grades are looking bad in a class my, determination allows me to bring them up, and has kept me on honor roll in all of my school years. And in other competitions my determination helps keeps me going even if it seems like Ihave no chance of winning. My determination is a driving force in my life.

With strong determination also comes very strong falls when you are determined to do something that you can't possibly do. One day a few years ago me and my family went to this all purpose fun place. It had go carts, an arcade, batting cages, and a rock climbing wall. Everything was good until I tried to climb a rock wall. My little brother, being not as stocky as myself, was able to climb it in no time, with no problems. After he did it I was 100% determined to reach the top. I got up about five feet and never made it past that point. I kept on falling down, slipping, and losing my grip, but I never gave up. As I continued to fall I began to get tons of bruises and scrapes all over my arms and legs. But even with all of my strength and determination my arms couldn't support my body weight and i had to quit. My determination failed me because it caused me alot of pain that day. once I sat down after my defeat at the wall's hands, I felt the horrible pain of dozens of scrapes and bruises. My determination that day, wasn't enough to get me to the top, and all it did was cause me pain.

How can failure be beneficial?

Failure, is something that happens to everyone in every type of task. No one likes to fail, but because no one is perfect, failures happen daily. Failures, however, are not always bad things. Sure, failing means you messed up, or did something wrong, but failure teaches a very good thing : whatever you just did to fail, is one way NOT to accomplish you task, so try another ,method until you get whatever your doing right. Thomas Edison once said "I have not failed. I've just found 10000 ways that won't work". I believe perfectly shows that failure can be beneficial. Thomas Edison, one of the world's greatest innovators, failed thousands of times, and each failure brought him closer and closer to his accomplishments. If people were to give up at their first failures the world would have none of the technologies it has today. Cavemen would've given up on the wheel, Henry Ford on the car, and Bill Gates on the computer. However, because people were able to overcome their failures, and find the right way to accomplish their tasks, our world is able to keep advancing. Even in me writing this blog post I encountered points of failure, having to backspace, rewrite ideas, and spellcheck. If I messed up once and stopped writing, instead overcoming my failures, i would get a very bad grade. Failure came upon this world not to put us down, but to show us what we did wrong and get us closer to doing it right.

Guilt response

I have never in my life felt intense guilt for anything, because I have a strong conscience that prevents me from even trying to do something bad. If people ever ask me if I want to do something that is wrong, or illegal, or whatever, even if I was considering it, the conscience wouldn't allow me to do it. I think the easiest way to get over guilt is to talk to someone about you situation so that you vent, and try to get it off your chest. I know if I ever had extreme guilt, I would never be able to hold it in myself, I would have to vent it out of my system ASAP or it would haunt all of my thoughts.

Technology video

This video, in my opinion, is a warning that soon technology is going to take over the world, for better and for worse. I have seen this video many times before this and every time I see it, it doesn't fail to shock me. Technology is advancing at a rate that we cannot control, and we have to stay ahead in learning about it or someday we'll be in a world where computers know more than mankind does. I think teachers should get students using technology on a daily basis. We should do more computer work, learn more about evolving technology in all subjects, and apply technology on more class assignments. If there ever is a new technological advancement in a school subject, the teachers should tell the students about it so that if we choose to enter that field we know the new technology we face. If more teachers did this it would prepare all students, myself included, for the evolving technology in the future. If we knew what to expect in our future we could obtain jobs easier, get through college easier, and live our lives ahead of the expanding technology. Even though technology is growing SO fast, if we learn of newer technologies sooner we should be able to handle whatever technology throws at us.
